Vision
To lead Ohio Chinese Americans in achieving equality in all aspects of American society.
Our Story
Ohio Chinese American Association was founded in March 2016 as a Nonprofit Organization in Ohio at a pivotal time when Chinese Americans and Chinese immigrants faced unprecedented racial bias and racial targeting and the community was realizing the power of grassroots organizing and civic engagement.
There was a surge in the number of incidents relating to civil right violations of Chinese Americans including Ms. Xiafen Chen, a Chinese American hydrologist at the National Weathers Service in Wilmington, Ohio, and Dr. Xiaoxing Xi, a Chinese American and Department Chair at Template University, among many others. We believe it was urgent and necessary to call for more active participation on Chinese Americans in civil and political matters in the American society. OCAA was established as a response to the call for actions to counter this worrying trend and with sense of urgency to make Chinese American more aware of their civil rights and duties as American citizens, to let the Chinese American voice heard as an important part of the American society, to promote mutual understanding among different groups, and to champion the American values and make America better for all.
The journey toward equality for all groups in the U.S. is long and ongoing. We recognize the importance of continued engagement, building allyship, and uplifting one another. Thank you for your support.
